Accelerated musicianship and piano skills class for children ages 7–12
|
More than just piano!
We teach COMPLETE musicianship: vocal training, ear training, sight reading, music theory, rhythm, music history, proper piano technique, and we do it in a fun, snappy style that tweens love! |
Presto is a 2-year course specifically designed for tweens!
Why Presto?
In Presto classes, kids learn from and inspire each other all while having a great time. Kids in Presto want to come to lessons. More than just piano lessons, our students learn music history, classical music, sight singing, ear training, and music theory. We are building complete musicians, rather than just pianists, so our students can accompany themselves, sing in harmony, transpose, compose, and excel in any music endeavor. Group lessons provide peer interaction and opportunities for games! They also foster a constant feeling of accountability since the pre-adolescent age group generally wants to perform well for their peers. As they progress and develop good practicing habits, it becomes a challenge and a pleasure rather than a chore.

Presto II Music has always been a big part of my life. My parents passed on their love for music to my five siblings and me when they created our family band. My first performance was at age 2 ½ singing “Little Bunny Foo Foo” for a variety show with my oldest sister. They say I stole the show, but what toddler on stage wouldn’t!? We would practice during the school year and then travel across the country every summer and perform.
At about age five, I started to learn the piano and as I grew older, I added a little bit of percussion, then the french horn, mellophone, and trumpet. I dabbled with the viola and the guitar, but that was short lived as wind instruments simply came more naturally to me. I went to community college in northeastern Arizona on a jazz band scholarship and had a great time writing my own piano parts for the songs we would play. I married a musician who was one of my best friends in our high school marching band and while our primary careers have not been in the field of music, we have continued to play and share our love for this art with our three children. Still young at heart, I am so excited to bring the absolute fun side of music to preschool aged children in our Flagstaff community through the Sound Beginnings program. |

Clara McDonald
Presto I My passion is music education. I have over 25 years of combined private and classroom teaching experience and a B.A. in Music Education. I have directed, accompanied, and participated in choirs, bands, orchestras, worship teams, and handbell choirs. Over the years I have played for recitals, weddings, funerals, art shows, recordings, accompanied vocalists, given solo recitals, adjudicated competitions, and worked as the administrator for a conservatory of arts program. I opened Infusing Music Studios in 2015 where I currently teach group music lessons as well as rent space to other teachers of various instruments. We serve over 100 students each week from the Flagstaff and surrounding communities.
In addition to making music of all kinds I enjoy running, cooking, knitting, the outdoors, homeschooling, cultivating friendships, watching movies, and traveling. (Oh, and did I mention that I like chocolate?) I would love to help your child discover the amazing world of music! |

Recently retired from NAU as a student advising specialist in national scholarships, she is thrilled to refocus her energies on music performance and education. Andrea performs flute, alto flute, and piccolo with the Flagstaff Symphony, Sedona Symphony, the AZ Philharmonic, and chamber music with Duo Catalina and the Ponderosa Players. As a Yamaha Performing Artist, she has performed throughout the United States, in Central America, and in the United Kingdom. Her music publications include Progress Press sheet music for alto flute and piano and her recording with the Camerata Woodwind Quintet is available through Crystal Records. Previously she held faculty appointments at Western Illinois University, Texas Wesleyan University, and Blue Lake and Interlochen Arts Camps. She holds degrees from Texas Tech University (BM), The Juilliard School (MM), and The University of North Texas (DMA). Andrea loves teaching the art of flute playing and group music lessons to students of all ages. Her teaching method encourages students to build strong fundamental musicianship skills so they have fulfilling experiences in their journey as life-long musicians.
