IMS Live Music Night

Hawk? Kangaroo? Donkey? Dingo?

Those were some of the animals guessed by students after hearing Charlie Lumpkins play the didgeridoo at our recent IMS Live Music Night. Two teachers and seven students filled up Cedar House Coffee Shop on Friday, October 23rd with fantastic music of all varieties!

Charlie opened with a short piece by Chopin, followed by a jazzy number by Duke Ellington, then closed with his fabulous didgeridoo animal impressions. He created a setting and added an animal appearance, all by blowing into the hollowed out 5 foot long piece of wood.

(Interesting tidbit: The name "didgeridoo" is actually a word of western invention. For authentic instrument names by the Aboriginal people of Australia who play the, well, didgeridoo, try "paampu", "artawirr", or my personal favorite, "ngarrriralkpwina"!)

After the students played — everything from "Ode To Joy" to "De Boself" (a spooky piece for Halloween!) — Charlie and Kristen Brock wrapped up the evening with an incredible Aria by Eugene Bozza and good 'ol "Autumn Leaves".
