It is such a delight to see all of the connections your child is making from the audio tracks to what we are learning in class! They will have their line and space notes learned in no time! This week add the flat, sharp, and natural signs to your flashcards. While you are at it, be sure to ask your child to show you a flat, sharp, or natural with their bodies and voices! Challenge your child to practice their flashcards every day. Homework: p. 22–23 Students match notes on the staff to the keyboard. Flat, Sharp, and Natural Game We won't just learn the names of these terms and how they work, we use our bodies and our voices to truly internalize and understand how each of these terms can affect any of our regular music alphabet white keys. Our Bugs Are So Fun Your student is now ready to recognize rhythm notation using 'real' note names and counting terms. This song will help keep that fun! Get inspired from one of the very first Let's Play Music graduates! She graduated from her 3rd year of Let's Play Music back in 2001 , and look at her 12 years later! For my convenience, I have preloaded content for the whole semester. I will update each future post with specific time-sensitive info before I send the link each week. If you choose to read ahead you might see details that don’t apply to your child’s class. For this reason I do not recommend reading ahead. Thank you!
We started writing music notes today! Students drew quarter notes on space F. If your child has been playing Scale In and Out with just the RH, they might want to try playing hands together this week. If your child is needing a little extra help on this activity, here's a video link that will help! Homework: p. 20–21 Students fill in the letter names on the keyboards as assigned. Be sure to have those flashcards out every day! They won't regret it! Caterpillar Cousins Our old favorite caterpillar is BACK to help our finger strength, coordination, and dexterity! This time we are asking even MORE out of your little musician by requiring their hands to play in parallel motion. Bounce and Roll Our first repertoire piece will have your child sight reading and playing hands together. It will also teach us how to accurately execute and recognize the articulation markings for staccato and legato that we experienced physically last week! For my convenience, I have preloaded content for the whole semester. I will update each future post with specific time-sensitive info before I send the link each week. Welcome to Purple Magic! You made it through Year 2 and now we're jumping into our final year! Here at the beginning, practice only needs to take as little as 8 to 10 minutes, 5 times a week! The activities listed are the goals for the end of the week, so refer to page 14 of the Songbook to find ideas for breaking down activities into bite-size chunks, perfect for your child! Remember that listening to the album often is part of the weekly practice assignment and will enhance your child's learning process: Listen, Listen, Listen!. Does your child need some extra help on Scale Out and In? Here's a video link that will help! Just a couple reminders:
Homework: p. 18–19 Students write the note names in. Treble, Bass, Line and Space Time to learn all the note names on the staff! This song also teaches countermelody (a secondary melody played against a primary melody) and helps your student sing in 4-part harmony. Bounce and Roll Complete musicianship is more than knowing WHICH notes to play. We are now ready to add another dimension of HOW to play the notes. This song allows us to 'physically' know and understand the articulations of staccato and legato. Articulation refers to the musical performance technique that affects the transition or continuity on a single note, or between multiple notes or sounds. As you start out this year, check out this practice tip from our Let's Play Music Blog. Here's a little 'practice humor' for you, and just for fun I have attached some fun coloring pages. Just print them off and color as you listen to our new "Royal Problem" puppet show! Can you hear the characters that you are coloring? Perform the puppet show while you look at page 60 of the HW Booklet.
