Parents, thanks for joining us this week! Your children are continuing to grow as mini-musicians, thanks to your continuing support. Keep up the practicing and remember, your child benefits from you sitting by their side every week! Lesson 15 will be Celebration Station Day. We have an recital rehearsal lesson scheduled. Please help your child have an AWESOME experience by practicing with them the next few weeks! ***Recital Prep: Use HW Booklet pp. 54–55 to help your child prepare for the recital. Choose three different locations/pianos for your child to play their composition. Be sure to have them practice their composition introduction using p. 29. Fill in the Recital Practice Log for each time they play. Complete the log and your child will ROCK the RECITAL!*** Homework: pp. 34–35 Students transpose a short melody into the key of F Major. Transposing means moving the melody to a different starting and keeping the intervals (or note relationships) the same. This might take a little parent help :) Yankee Doodle This familiar favorite will have us adding chords to a melody and learning to improvise in a varied accompanying style! Our Let's Play Music blog has a fun post all about Yankee Doodle and gives all sorts of little known facts as well as ideas to continue practicing through the summer!
Parents come next week! We started our class with harmonic dictation today. That's right — your mini musicians are hearing chords! They recognized them right away! Lesson 15, our final lesson, is Station Day and parents attend again. We will have stations similar to Lesson 15 of Green Turtle Shells. The recital is coming up! Keep practicing those compositions! A separate email with specific practice instructions will be sent out. Please take the time to rehearse assigned songs at home and your child prepare for their performance. Keep in mind, we are not a performing group, but we do like to showcase what we have learned! Homework: p. 28–29 Students write in letter names on the staff and read a fun story. We are getting so good at playing our scales in F Major, G Major, and A minor. Check out this fun video to see what it would look like to play your scales with your feet!
Your child will be practicing most of the same things as Lesson #10. However, be sure to have them practice any new changes we have made to the composition! We have all finished our compositions and they sound great! I’m so proud of all my Orange Roots! Please make sure that your child practices their composition every day. Use theory assignment #11 to help your student introduce their recital piece. Practice saying it out loud each time they practice their composition. I want them to be prepared and confident at our recital! Homework pp. 28–29: Students will fill in information about their composition to help them prepare for the recital. The progress that we have made in developing our compositions has been exciting. Our homework is preparing us to perform our composition at our recital. Look how cute this spider is as he introduces his composition! Your student will enjoy these clips of the winners from our National Composition Contest introducing and performing their compositions.
