Lesson 12

11/11/2022

Picture
The time you spend with your child in class may be more valuable than you realize. Studies have shown that parent-child play contributes more significantly to a child’s ability to learn from social interactions than play with other children. Infants and preschoolers also use more behaviors that require a partner while playing with parents. Your time here is powerful!

Children have an innate tendency to make sense of the world around them through observing patterns. Recognizing patterns allows children to make predictions based on these observations. Creating their own provides opportunities to practice sequencing. Understanding patterns lays the foundation for learning more difficult mathematical concepts, and the ability to identify simple patterns in their early years will transfer to understanding more complex number concepts later on.

Optional home fun activity: Color the candy cane on page 22 in your workbook.

(Remember, these activities are optional but can be a great bonding experience to do with your child during the week.)

Solfege is a method used at every level of music education to teach pitch and sight singing. The syllables allow the brain to connect more easily with pitch relationships, and hand signs add a physical element that further reinforces those relationships. Learning solfege means learning how to ‘hear’ a piece of music simply by looking at it because it develops inner hearing. It can also help a musician transcribe, improvise, and compose music.

Optional home fun activity: Cut out the horse puppet on page 31 in your workbook.

(Remember, these activities are optional but can be a great bonding experience to do with your child during the week.

Lesson 9

10/21/2022

Musical talent isn’t born, it’s grown. Children develop into musicians through experiences that include: exposure to a variety of music, opportunities to use their singing voice, and hands-on experience with instruments, among other things. Sound Beginnings allows children to explore all of these in an age-appropriate manner designed to instruct and foster further interest in musical study.
Picture
Exposure to quality classical music allows children the opportunity to learn musical form, structure, rhythm, melody, phrasing, timbre, dynamics, and expression. These aural skills require the brain to perceive and organize complex and diverse sound patterns. Smart Moves dances enhance the aural experience by adding movement, making the experience more meaningful to children and strengthening the connections made in the brain.

Optional home fun activity: Color the Royal Parade coloring page on page 16 in your workbook.

(Remember, these activities are optional but can be a great bonding experience to do with your child during the week.)
